More than 13,000 legal professionals will be eligible for the complimentary scheme which includes a range of mental health support services and benefits valued at over S$1,000 per member per annum. Key features include:

  • Behavioural health coaching: Members can receive three 30-minute virtual or text-based sessions with licensed coaches and counsellors per year.

  • Clinical counselling: Members can access three one-hour counselling or clinical therapy sessions with licensed psychologists or psychiatrists, virtually or in person, per year.

  • Self-care platform: Members will have access to a personalised self-care platform offering programmes, tools, and a 24/7 helpline for urgent and crisis support.

Singlife, who is underwriting the scheme, has included personal accident coverage of S$15,000 for accidental death or total permanent disability for those who sign up. Members will also enjoy privileges, such as exclusive discounts on Singlife products, a lifestyle benefits and rewards programme, and complimentary health screenings.

The scheme was announced by The Honourable Justice Valerie Thean at the inaugural Legal Professional Symposium, organised by SAL. She said, “Globally and locally, surveys indicate mental wellness is an issue of concern, and not only within the legal profession. This initiative is timely.” The partnership with Singlife is designed to help tackle this issue and to safeguard the mental wellbeing of legal professionals.

Chia Ko Wen, Head of Sustainability, Singlife said: “We are pleased to be the first insurer to offer SAL members an insurance scheme with mental health support. This initiative underscores Singlife’s commitment to our communities under our sustainability strategy, promoting not only financial protection but also holistic wellbeing. By investing in mental wellness, we contribute to a healthier, more resilient workforce and a sustainable future for all.”

Yeong Zee Kin, Chief Executive, SAL said: “The legal profession plays a critical role in the administration of justice, and maintaining good mental wellness practices is essential for both quality of life and professional effectiveness. It’s an area that can often be overlooked, so we hope this insurance scheme will enable our members to build resilience and pursue fulfilling, sustainable careers in law.”

The two-year partnership between Singlife and SAL will start in January 2025.
