The coaching & training camp held in partnership with World Wheelchair Rugby will provide regional athletes with opportunities to train with the best for sporting excellence

Leading homegrown financial services company Singlife is pleased to announce together with the Wheelchair Rugby Association Singapore (WRAS), the first ever World Wheelchair Rugby Super Week 2026 which will be held from 18 to 21 June 2026 in Singapore, to elevate the sport here and in the region.

WRAS – in partnership with World Wheelchair Rugby (WWR) – will bring in leading trainers, team coaches, referees, classifiers and players to Singapore for this intensive Athlete and Coach Training Camp.

Activities will take place at the Singapore Sports School (SSS) in Woodlands where athletes will board[1] during the camp, and undergo intensive coaching and training sessions including individual-focused training, led by well-known WWR coaches from the United Kingdom (UK), Australia, Canada, Japan and New Zealand.

One such luminary is Robb Tarr, Paralympian and the United Kingdom’s (UK) representative in every major wheelchair rugby event since 1991, including three Paralympics (as captain for Athens 2004), three world championships and three European championships, before he retired to become a coach in 2005. As coach, he has helped the UK win golds for the sport in Paralympics Tokyo 2021, the inaugural low-point wheelchair rugby World Championships 2022, as well as the Women’s Cup in 2023.

Over 100 participants from Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Timor Leste, Singapore, India and China are expected to join the live-in WWR Super Week camp. As part of the activities, Team Singapore will be playing in a mini-competition together with other country teams at the SSS Sports Hall on Sunday 21 June from 10am to 5pm.

Debra Soon, Group Head of Brand, Communications, Marketing and Experience, Singlife, said: “We are proud to be doing our part by continuing to raise awareness for persons with disability and wheelchair rugby as we are ardent supporters of sport and sporting talent in Singapore. WWR Super Week looks to be an exciting training initiative that WRAS has put together for our athletes, and for those from around the region. At Singlife, we believe it is important to build communities, support sporting talent, built on inclusivity for a united Singapore. We want to inspire Singaporeans with A Better Way to achieving their personal and financial dreams.”

Since April 2025, Singlife has embarked on a two-year partnership with WRAS to foster inclusivity, resilience, and inspire support in Singapore’s sporting community for athletes with disabilities. As title sponsor for WRAS’ flagship events, Singlife helps to raise awareness for wheelchair rugby, promote inclusivity, and inspire communities to support athletes with disabilities. The Singlife Wheelchair Rugby Cup 2025  last April, saw five mixed teams of seasoned players with physical disabilities and able-bodied players play competitively, including representatives from the Singapore Rugby Union (SRU) and the Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) Rugby Section. In September 2025, the Singlife Wheelchair Rugby Corporate Challenge also made its debut as a unique event designed to engage corporate teams in the sport.

Jonathan Lam, President, Wheelchair Rugby Association Singapore, said: “We are collaborating with WWR to support the development of Southeast Asian wheelchair rugby programmes with a focus on enhancing technical, tactical and organisational capacity, in preparation for upcoming international competitions, including the Asian games and ASEAN games. We have done many things to elevate wheelchair rugby in the past year, thanks to Singlife’s sponsorship. Singlife’s valuable support has and will continue to help us enhance our training programmes, improve access to equipment, and provide our players with opportunities to compete at a higher level, and to grow the sport and our community.”

Singlife’s sponsorship will also help support WRAS’s long-term goal of building a competitive team for the 2029 ASEAN Para Games, to be hosted in Singapore. With 27 members from 5 to 65 years old, WRAS actively works to grow the sport through recruitment, engaging schools and hospitals, and providing opportunities for both able-bodied and disabled players to participate in community sessions.

A less well-known sport, wheelchair rugby is a fast-paced and full-contact sport which combines elements of rugby, basketball, and handball, played by athletes with upper and lower limb impairments using specially designed wheelchairs. The sport is not only a test of physical skill and strategy but also a powerful platform for building resilience and camaraderie among players. Sharing rugby’s emphasis on teamwork, strategy, and physicality, wheelchair rugby is played on a basketball court with a round ball, and physical contact is limited to wheelchair collisions, making it a unique and exhilarating adaptation of the traditional game.

Singlife is a strong supporter of Singapore’s sporting communities. It recently renewed for the second year, its partnership with Netball Singapore, supporting the country’s national team the Vandas, and is title sponsor for the Singlife National League and Singlife Nations Cup.
