Ever wondered how life would unfold if it mirrored the action-packed scenes of a K-drama? Well, Cindy Ong, who is a Singlife customer and an adventure seeker, got a taste of that with an unexpected experience while exploring the picturesque landscapes of Jeju Island.

Crash landing on you in Jeju

Reminiscent of a plot twist in a Crash Landing on You episode, Cindy's adventure took a sharp turn when she found herself not in the arms of a charming North Korean soldier, but rather in the confines of a hospital in Jeju with an injured hand.

She shares, “I was on a round-the-island cycling trip with an adventure group in Jeju. On the third day, while cruising along a pretty flat road on Jeju’s scenic route, I lost my balance while going over a curb and injured my hand when I landed. At that point in time, I didn’t feel much pain so I picked myself up and continued cycling for the remaining two hours”.

However, as night fell the pain intensified and Cindy had to seek medical assistance. Like any other traveller, her immediate worries were the language barrier and potentially hefty cost of getting medical treatment in a foreign land. Thankfully, the latter wasn’t as big a worry as Cindy knew that her travel insurance policy had her back.

There’s always going to be a plot twist

Back in Singapore, Cindy continued to grapple with persistent pain and decided to visit to a GP. She says, “It was around one week after the trip, and the pain in my hand was still there. My GP referred me to a hand specialist. At that moment, I was concerned with the costs, as I had to go for multiple scans, purchase of wrist guards and medication. I wasn’t sure if the procedures would be covered by insurance. Most importantly, I didn’t know if I could still make claims with my travel insurance post-trip.”

With a single call to Singlife’s Travel Insurance hotline, Cindy found reassurance in the team’s guidance, knowing that her insurance coverage would cushion the blow of her medical expenses from visiting a hand specialist which amounted to almost S$1,000. Her claims were processed seamlessly.  All she had to do was submit the documents the team had requested via the online claims submission portal. Within a few days, she received her claim amount via PayNow, sparing her from financial headache.

Reflecting on her experience, Cindy acknowledges the importance of travel insurance in providing peace of mind. She says, “Unforeseen circumstances can arise, and when you’re a foreigner in an overseas country, healthcare costs can be extremely high without subsidies. Meeting with an accident while overseas has, for me, emphasised the importance of getting travel insurance such as Singlife Travel Insurance so that you don’t have to worry about medical expenses.”

Travel fuss-free and with ease

Leisure travel should be an enjoyable and stress-free experience, offering a well-deserved respite from work and life obligations. However, unforeseen accidents and incidents can occur while abroad, and though we don’t want to jinx ourselves it’s still necessary to be insured. The last thing you want to worry about is medical expenses as a foreigner, which can be very high.

So, if you’re looking to maximise your annual leave and make a few overseas trips this year, remember to also look for an annual travel insurance plan such as Singlife Travel Insurance.
